World Thinking Day 2009
World Thinking Day 2009 will focus on ‘disease prevention’
The theme for World Thinking Day 2009 will be girls worldwide say “stop the spread of diseases,” which was announced at the 33rd World Conference in South Africa. A badge will be available to purchase and there will be lots of activities and information on this website soon!
The World Thinking Day 2009 theme is linked to the new WAGGGS Global Action Theme “together we can change our world”, which is based on the eight United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Ending poverty through the eight MDGs was the historic promise made by 189 world leaders at the United Nations Millennium Summit in 2000. They agreed to work towards achieving the goals by 2015, but we must work together to encourage them to do this.
check out http://www.heifer.org/ to find out how to inspire your girls to take action by learning about global poverty and disease. Educational materials can be found on the site, and in the states, Girl Scouts have partnered with local learning centers to earn badges. For example, the junior badges – Humans & Habitats, World Neighbors, and Globe-Trotting, are ideally suited to activities on this site and at learning cetners. Brownie Try-Its such as Animals, Eco-Explorer, People of the World, or Outdoor Adventurer are equally as suited. We don't have centers here in the West Pacific, so partner with your host nation to create a NEW experience for the girls!
